Project Background

Improvement to the pedestrian environment in business districts, shopping areas and leisure zones with heavy pedestrian flows (including Yuen Long District) is one of the initiatives set out in the 2008/09 and 2009/10 Policy Addresses.

The existing Yuen Long town centre is overcrowded with heavy pedestrian activities.  There is an imminent need to resolve the congestion problem and provide a better and safer walking environment.

The objective of the project is to construct a covered footbridge along Yuen Long Town Nullah linking West Rail Long Ping Station with Yuen Long On Ning Road, Castle Peak Road – Yuen Long and Kau Yuk Road. The project will help relieve the pedestrian congestion situation at ground level as well as minimize vehicle-pedestrian conflicts, hence significantly improving the walking environment in the area.
